CW: Child Abuse
This week on Unpack, we take a look at the much maligned organisation, Oranga Tamariki. They’ve been a mainstay in the news for the last few years for a number of issues which we discuss on the episode. These include the controversial methods of uplifting children, ‘forgetting’ about children at the Ministry for Vulnerable Children offices, and their inaction leading to the sad, unfortunate deaths of our tamariki. This episode we take a look at the organisation before 2017, while it was still known as CYFs.
This was one of the most difficult episodes to record, but at the same time was one of the most important.
Big thanks to the lead writer for this episode - Lourdes Vano
